Before the presentation we need to:
- Glue in the stepper motors
- Finish the gearbox
- Finish the shell
- Finalize code
- Make a poster? (I have a Trifold if we want it)
So over the weekend:
I finished off the structure of the body.
I attempted to mount the stepper motors with foam core board brackets and used washers to create the bearings for the axle.
I did some testing with securing the gears with hot glue, but while it worked in my small tests, when I assembled the device as a whole, it failed.
After scrapping the mounts and sidewalls, I epoxied the gears in place. Tomorrow night they should be ready for another lift test.
The cup holder is also done, but after seeing it in blue foam, I was disappointed, so I built a shell to enclose our robot, I figured we could put lapels on it, so it looks like a little suit code.
For the gearbox, I also prepped some back-up axles by grinding down the ends of a metal rod, in case the ones we ordered don't fit properly.
